| Gravel Binder Application Guide |
|---|
| Choosing the Right Stone | Recommended Application Method |
| Size: Up to 20 mm gravel is ideal. Shape: Angular stones bond best. Avoid: Rounded pebbles – fewer contact points mean weaker bonding. |
Pre-mix in a bucket: • Put clean, dry stones into a bucket. • Add liquid binder. • Mix until all stones have a thin, even coating. |
| Lay the coated stones: • Spread evenly over the area. • Lightly level and shape as needed. |
Optional additional coats: • Apply light top-up coats after the first layer cures. • These bond better due to the stable base. |
| Why not pour from a watering can? • Binder runs off and pools at the bottom. • Uneven coating leads to weak bonding. |
Curing Time • Depends on temperature and conditions. • Cool weather may take several days. • Keep dry and undisturbed. • Thicker binder can cause pooling and slow curing. |
| Temperature & Weather • Do not apply below 10 °C. • Cold slows curing and increases rain risk. • Surface may stay soft or tacky. |
Apply only when: • Air and ground temperatures are above 10 °C. • Forecast is dry for several days. |
| Cold Weather Alternative • Use an epoxy resin system. • Higher cost and specialist tools may be required. |
Quick Troubleshooting • Stones too large or rounded. • Binder poured instead of mixed. • Low temperature or rain. • Area disturbed before curing finished. |
